Wheelchairs are mobility chairs are mobility device that come with wheels in order to provide mobility to immobile patients who suffer from permanent disability or illness. However, wheelchair is used by all those patients who suffer from walking disability. A basic wheelchair provides a seat and back rest and two large wheels along with two small wheels that provide mobility. However, with the advancement of science and technology, basic wheelchairs have undergone a deep sea change and they offer amazing features and state of the art utilities such as wider seat size, adjustable backrest and foot rests and many other customized and advanced features such as safety belts, drink holders and oxygen tank support. The history of these wheelchairs dates back to the World War II when George Klein of National Research Council of Canada invested the electric wheelchairs.

Some of the features of power wheel chair include four wheel driven wheels and provides easily maneuvered both in home and outdoors as one does not have to pull the wheels manually in order to drive the wheel chair as the automatic transmission of the electric wheelchair helps in easy movement. They are controlled by joysticks and can perform umpteen functions such as tilt, seat elevation, leg elevation at a click of the button or movement of the joystick.  This power wheel chair comes with electronic controls that are supported by battery. These wheel chairs are compact and lighter in comparison to manual wheel chairs that are bulky and heavy. They provide easy transportation where a patient does not have to rely upon any one for external help. Therefore, the joy stick controlled these can easily be moved from one place to another in an easy and hassle free way.

However, if you are using manual wheel chair and feel unsatisfied, make sure you switch over to the power wheel chair that offer complete mobility without making you uncomfortable. These electronic wheel chairs come with wider range of utilities that makes it more useful in comparison to the manual wheel chair. They offer adjustable seats along with backrests and foot rests. These power wheelchairs also come with speed controls that help in moving the chair with constant speed. This helps the patient in facilitating easy movements. However, with advanced breaks, they can be controlled perfectly.

However, while using them, one should try caution as these chairs are controlled electronically; a wrong command can be dangerous at times. Therefore, while using the power wheel chair, make sure you keep certain things in mind such as keeping the wheel chair in perfect condition. While the chair is not in use, always keep the power off. Incase you are not moving, make sure you are applying brakes to the wheel chair. Do not go near steep and slopes or rough area that makes you uncomfortable while riding the wheelchair. So, take due caution while driving these wheel chair.
